Catalytic converters are used to help convert toxic gases

There are different types of catalytic converters available on the market. These include the monolithic type, the particulate trap type and the honeycomb type. All of these types are used for the same purpose. They all help to purify exhaust fumes.

The first catalytic converters were made of carbon monoxide absorbent material, but these have since been replaced with metal catalyst material. These materials catalyst buying act as the catalyst in the chemical reaction which converts toxic gas to a safer gas.

Catalytic converters are used to help convert toxic gases into less harmful substances, such as carbon dioxide. You can find these devices at petrol stations and on some cars. They are designed to break down poisonous emissions.

The catalyst material used is platinum, palladium and rhodium. The three metals are commonly used as catalysts to convert carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into other compounds.
